  23. If you can figure this out, please let me know. I too have the USR 28.8
  24. Sportster. I rarely get a connect rate more than 14.4, but I can upload
  25. at 2500 cps.  I can watch the progress bar on AMosaic and tell that I 
  26. am not getting 2k/sec transfer rate. I can use DCC RECEIVE on IRC and tell
  27. the transfer is slow (sometimes ending at 300cps!), but DCC SEND yields
  28. transfer rates well above 2k/sec.

  30. Bypassing PPP.device altogether, I get the same results using Term 4.5
  31. when connecting to, say, Soft-Logik's BBS (which I know uses 28.8's).

  33. I'm beginning to wonder whether my (nearly) stock A2000 can handle
  34. incoming data at speeds of more than 1k/sec.  Yes, 68000... but I do
  35. have the SupraTurbo 28 (which gives me 28mHz). I have 8 megs RAM, 
  36. OS_3.1, 400mb HD.

  38. Did I waste my money buying a 28.8 v.34 USR Sportster? I'm stuck with
  39. it, since I've already sold my old Zoom 14.4!

  41. Or, could it be the modems at my ISP... they are in the process of 
  42. upgrading their v.fast modems to v.34 (they're doing it POP by POP).
  43. I can call a (long-distance) POP that has v.34 and at least get a
  44. connect rate higher than 16800... but don't have the resources ($$$)
  45. to stay connected and run transfer rate tests.
